How To Repair
Your Steps

You may want to check with Ohio Building Code before attempting any major repair, or placing new steps.

However as a general rule, if the steps are exterior steps usually they do not require any kind of permit to repair..
that is as long as they are on your property and you are repairing existing steps. But you may still want to check with OBC thats Ohio Building Code to double check, also be sure to check with your local municipality. If the steps you are building or repair are on commercial property there is a whole different set of rules. A permit may be required as well as an inspection.

If the steps are on public property for example steps leading from the street to the sidewalk in front of your house, they may also require a permit or inspection. You should check local code and regulations.

Steps, should always maintain a rise of 7.5" per step, and be flat. These are standard building practices throughout the United States.

Here is a link to Ohio Revised Codes, you will want to check with Ohio Building Code and local Municipalities if you are unsure if you need a permit or an inspection to start your project.
